At first, the conversational skills of hypnosis to influence people and situations change seems almost incredible, but downright magic.
However, when you look a little closer, you realize that hypnosis is just a carefully orchestrated conversation using words that allows the user to bypass the conscious mind of the listener and talk directly with the subconscious.
Usually you do not learn this method of conversation, so when we witness the effects first appear surprising. In a way, reporting on the results of conversational hypnosis has the same effect as a demonstration of a light switch to someone who has never heard of electricity.
Throwing a switch on a wall due to light an entire room would have been surprised earlier generations. However, once you know about electricity can be used without thinking about it. You can use it even if you do not know how the generation or transmission lines or wall switch work.
All you need to know is the basics of how the system is configured and how to use it safely (not put your finger in the empty light sockets.)
It is very similar to hypnotic conversation, a form of hypnosis NLP.
Most people recognize Dr. Milton Erickson as the greatest hypnotist of all time. The results obtained with the simple use of words are nothing short of amazing.
One problem was that the technique of Dr. Erickson came out of that left. I still was not quite sure how he got results.
However, over time a careful examination of the recordings and transcripts of Erickson's work and conversations with those who worked directly with him, have led to some understanding of how Dr. Erickson accomplished what he did.
Perhaps most remarkable of the hypnotic conversation is that there is no installation or elaborate ritual. The hypnotist just talks, but a trance results in the same way.
There are natural rules about how our mind works that allow conversational hypnosis to work. Again, like electricity, we can use it without knowing all the details of psychology.
Here's an oversimplified example.
The conscious mind can hear the words "no" and "no" and so on, but the subconscious mind can not.
If I say "Do not drop the glass of water" what you get picture in your mind? A photo of a glass of water fall. The "no" does not change that.
Compare this with "Hold on to the glass of water with both hands." The difference is obvious.
A conversation skilled hypnotist can use this principle to hypnotize even someone claiming to be tough.
Traditional techniques of hypnosis could use a script when suggesting something like "Now relax your arms, your shoulders now ,..." To which the resistant subject says: "No way" His strength is fully committed.
Now imagine the response: "Do not relax faster and easier than you feel comfortable doing." From the hypnotist uses the word not resistant to the listener has nothing to push against your subconscious and was open to the suggestion to relax quickly and easily.
Of course, this is a simple example, but I think it gives you an idea of how hypnotic conversation can achieve results.
